The Many Incarnations (and films) of Snow White

I have a secret, I want to be Snow White when I grow up. She is by far my favorite fairy tale princess. When I was a little girl eating an hour could take an hour, because if it was a nice red one, I would take a bite and then collapse in a mock swoon and repeat ad nauseum until the apple was done. I wear a silver charm on my silver necklace that I wear all the time of my favorite heroine disney style. So imagine my excitement when I realized that not one but two new movies were coming out this year about my favorite girl, and one had Thor!! I have not gotten to see Mirror, Mirror yet, though I have read the book. This morning Seth and I went to see Snow White and The Huntsman.

I liked it, but did not love it. Maybe I am a bit picky about my Snow White films, lol. I loved Chris Hemsworth as our Huntsman, he was hard, and tender, and well Chris Hemsworth. Charlize Theron did well being both human and super human as the wicked queen. The dwarves were made up of some amazing actors including Bob Hoskins, Ian McShane and Nick Frost. And then, there was Kristen Stewart. I am not going to spend too much time blasting her performance, but I will say that in a perfect world she would not have been Snow White. Nuff' said.

So it made me think about some of  my personal favorite Snow White films and such.

Of Course there is the incomparable...
Walt Disney's Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs (1937): It's the classic and everyone's favorite version. The songs are memorable, the witch is scary and everyone loves the dwarfs. It's still beautiful even now.

Snow White: A Tale of Terror (1997): A truly frightening version of Snow White. Sigourney Weaver is truly frightening as the evil queen. The cast is fun and it gives a nice variation on the traditional story.  This is one of my personal favorites, and in my collection of dvds. This one is not for the faint of heart as it can be quite raw and violent.

Snow White: The Fairest of Them All (2001): A Hallmark special, but very entertaining. I loved the rainbow, day of the week dwarfs. And the lead dwarf is played by Michael Anderson from Carnivale. Warwick Davis is also there. Plus Miranda Richardson as the evil Queen. Generally it is a pretty fun version.

Faerie Tale Theatre: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs(1984): I grew up watching Faerie Tale Theatre and love every episode, but this one is amazing. Vincent Price in the narrator and the Magic Mirror. Fabulous. 

I could go on and on, but this is a good collection.:) Hollywood keep up the Snow White love. :)

Have you also seen "Snow White In Happily Ever After"? It's Snow White and the 7 dwarfels or something; with "Thunderella" and "Moonbeam" and the other 5 whose names escape me at this moment in time.

Mad Tea Party 2011

Welcome to my Party!! Feel free to grab a cup and a chair.  The table is set and waiting.  Pretty veggies... All kinds of berries... The tea service awaiting the first guests... Betsy's Gypsy Dreams

When I was a little girl I would sit on my front porch reading and dreaming that the gypsies would come to take me away. I loved the music, dancing, color and whimsy of the gypsy. Their spirit spoke of freedom that my mid-western soul could not help but envy. I wanted to run away and find my place among those beautiful people.  And as an adult I still do. I love to dress in what I think of a a gypsy style.
